Emily explores the relationships that inspired her, from her raw, passionate sisterhood with Charlotte and Anne to her forbidden love for Weightman and her care for her brother Branwell whom she idolises. Frances O'Connor makes her directorial debut with a biopic of one of literatures most enigmatic and provocative voices that also stars Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Fionn Whitehead, Amelia Gething, Alexandra Dowling, Adrian Dunbar, and Gemma Jones.
